Meet James Brook-Partridge

Why did you decide to join the AdGreen board?

Sustainability is a huge challenge for us all. It's been really important for Hogarth as an organisation to be doing all it can to help drive sustainable best practice into our ways of working so we can be at the forefront of the conversations about what needs to change to get to net zero. AdGreen was a natural partner in this.

Which production that you've worked on are you most proud of?

Gosh - producing jobs isn't something I've done since 2019 ! But I know that we did decide where to shoot one project based on a preliminary check on the carbon footprint using the calculator. We shot in Malaga rather than Mexico and the CO2 output was drastically reduced due to there being far less travel.

Who has been the biggest inspiration to your work on environmental sustainability?

This sounds really corny but my kids. They will have to live in the mess we leave. They deserve that we take this seriously.

What advice would you give to other companies looking to embed sustainability into their work?

Do not underestimate the time and effort (cost) of doing this. So plan and give people the space to deliver the change program. Like any change it will meet with resistance. You will have to continually repeat yourself. Build a small, committed group to champion and repeat repeat repeat. Then repeat some more...

How do you think advertising can support a global move to reduce carbon emissions?

Getting the message out. We are on people's screens all the time, so how brands talk about sustainability matters. The content of what we make matters. We need to show people living more sustainable lives in our representation of life in the narratives we tell.We also need to make decision on HOW we make work that are influenced by sustainability as much as it is influenced by other drivers...

Is there a book, TV show, documentary or podcast that you would recommend to those looking to learn more?

Al Gore's 'An Inconvenient Truth' shows my age. But is still well worth a watch.

Can you share a quote that inspires your work?

"What stands in the way becomes the way."
