AdGreen’s 2024 New Year’s Resolutions

Beginning a new year is the perfect opportunity to set out your intentions, both as individuals and organisations, of what you’d like to achieve in the upcoming 12 months. And when it comes to reducing carbon emissions this is even more pressing, as we have only 6 years remaining to reach 2030 carbon reduction targets.

We have put together a collection of pledges that you can choose from, which identify the most carbon intensive activities happening across the production community, based on the emissions data we have gathered from the carbon calculator.

You can choose one, or all, of these pledges, but we’d highly recommend you choose them based on your own data. You can pull a CSV report, identify your high carbon activities, and aim to make reductions in these areas.

Whether you share these publicly across your social channels, or internally with your teams, we’d love to know which pledge you have taken.

Here are some suggestions of how this can be achieved:

  • Start measuring your campaign at pitch/brief stage
  • Inform all production partners as early as possible what information you will require from them
  • Use your budget as a guide to enter data – view our video here

Here are some suggestions of how this can be achieved:

  • Join the production remotely via a livestream
  • Opt for economy rather than business class if you are required to fly
  • Create scripts which can be shot locally, or employ crew local to the location

Here are some suggestions of how this can be achieved:

  • Join the production remotely via a livestream
  • Request electric taxis or hire cars
  • Choose locations or studios with good access to public transport

Here are some suggestions of how this can be achieved:

  • Select studios running on renewable power
  • Turn off lights and equipment over lunch and when not being used
  • Select generators running on biodiesel or electricity (charged using renewable power)

Here are some suggestions of how this can be achieved:

  • Select spaces running on renewable energy
  • Move your company onto a renewable energy tariff
  • Hold castings remotely via video call

Here are some suggestions of how this can be achieved:

  • Select a post-production partner running on renewable energy
  • Move to a renewable energy tariff

Here are some suggestions of how this can be achieved:

  • Select plant-based catering on set and for evening meals (if providing accommodation)
  • Request locally sourced, seasonal ingredients to avoid air travel emissions
  • Reduce excess food by avoiding buffet style serving, and catering for the exact number on set

Here are some suggestions of how this can be achieved:

  • Select hotels or accommodation running on renewable energy
  • Reduce the number of people travelling to a location
  • Hire crew local to the filming location

Here are some suggestions of how this can be achieved:

  • Choose second hand materials, or re-use from other sets
  • Consider VFX or virtual production to reduce set requirements (but consider the emissions from the storage of these assets)
  • Rethink what is included in the script to make set reductions or use less carbon intensive materials
